Hair Loss & Hair Thinning

Around 40% of women by age 50 show signs of hair loss and less than 45% of women reach the age of 80 with a full head of hair.

Hair loss is not just a male problem, it affects at least a third of women at different stages of their lives. Women tend to experience thinning hair without going bald, and there can be a number of different causes for the problem.

Hair loss is a fairly common problem in females, affecting more than 50% of women at some point in their lives and approximately 80% of women by age 80. The most significant cause of hair loss in women is female pattern hair loss.

Losing your hair, whether you’re female or male, can have a damaging effect on your self confidence. While a lot of men don’t mind seeking help for hair loss, women tend to bottle it up and this can lead to feelings of despair and depression.

At Glamour we provide a number of different solutions for hair loss and our team have completed the latest training in wig and hair topper customising and fitting. We also offer advice on the best options for you, as well as details on available funding options.

Hair Toppers

Hair toppers are designed to add hair volume and give your hair that extra oomph. As different people have different hair conditions, hair toppers come in a wide range of shapes, sizes and colors in order to blend in with your existing hair and give you a natural look. As a new user, how to wear hair toppers to achieve your desired look? Here are some tips on how to correctly attach your hair toppers.

Basic steps:

  1. To get started, you want to make a clean parting line in your hair.
  2. Open each of the clips on the topper.
  3. Bring it above your head and hold the front up.
  4. Hold the two side clips up and off of your head, so it doesn’t grab on to any of your hair.
  5. To apply the front or side clips, make sure the topper is flush against the front of your head.
  6. Then, scoop the back and clip in.
  7. Style your hair and hair topper.

What are Hair Toppers?

Hair toppers are a great option for women to disguise partial hair loss or areas that are thinning. These types of hair loss can occur as a result of a lot of factors from aging, alopecia, medical treatments, stress, just to name a few.

Toppers are different from full wigs in that they tend to be smaller and they’re designed to blend invisibly with your natural hair as opposed to covering it up completely.

Hair toppers can help you to regain the confidence you may have lost by shedding a noticable amount of hair or by areas that are thinning on the scalp. They add fuller, thicker hair in specific sections without covering your entire head.

HSE Grant

If you have hair loss from cancer or types of alopecia there is a grant worth €500 to help you cover the cost of a hairpiece, wig or hair replacement. This is through the Department of Social Protection’s Treatment Benefit Scheme.

We are a registered hair replacement product supplier on the Department’s list. Before you get treatment you should contact the Department to check if you qualify for the €500 grant.

You can also claim for a wig through private health insurance.  The amount received will depend on the health insurance plan or policy you have. Contact your health insurer for details.

Customer Feedback

"I've had thinning hair for years because of thyroid issues. I came to Glamour 3 years ago to speak to them about solutions and I haven't looked back since. I wish I'd done it years ago."

Marie R

"During menopause my hair started thinning really badly. It got to the stage where I stopped going out. I spoke to Breige about it and I now have a hair topper. You'd literally never know that it's not my own hair. I feel like my life has started over again.”
